About Shikukai

Dojo Introduction

Shikukai Dojo, a kendo dojo in Miyamae Ward, Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Founded in 1989, it aims to provide international Bushido education for adults through kendo and to foster the healthy development of children. The name Shikukai embodies the wish that “even as adults, they will continue to cherish kendo for a long time.” While long committed to the sound development of youth, in recent years it has also focused on Bushido education through practice and instructs kendo practitioners from overseas.

Our Approach

At the Yukyu-kai Dojo, we support the growth of both mind and body through Kendo. Under the careful guidance of experienced instructors, students cultivate courtesy, concentration, and a spirit of cooperation with their peers. We provide an environment where everyone—from children to adults, and from beginners to experienced practitioners—can develop at their own pace.

We also place great importance on creating an environment where you can focus on your training in comfort and safety. The dojo is equipped with three commercial-grade air conditioning units, ensuring a comfortable training environment year-round. Furthermore, the flooring features specialized material designed specifically for Kendo—distinct from standard gymnasium flooring—which reduces strain on the legs and lower back, allowing you to train with confidence.

You will also have opportunities to interact with fellow swordsmen from both Japan and abroad, experiencing the joy of connecting with the world through Kendo. We invite you to learn more about our dojo and come experience the atmosphere firsthand during a free trial session.

What's New

2026.8.9 Members of Shikukai—including elementary school students, junior high school students, and adults—participated in the Kawasaki City 102nd Anniversary Citizens' Kendo Championship.
Each participant demonstrated the results of their daily training, with some reaching the quarter-finals in the middle-grade elementary school division. Well done to all the competitors!
2026.7.28 We do not observe the Obon holiday, so training sessions will be held as usual during this period. We also continue to welcome trial sessions and visits throughout the Obon season.
2026.7.26 All elementary school and adult members who took the 1st-kyu examination passed. Congratulations to everyone who participated!
