This past November was my first time visiting Shiku Kai. Iwanami Sensei, Abe Sensei, and Okamoto Sensei had visited our dojo in Tulsa, Oklahoma just a few weeks before we came to Japan. It was so great learning from such high level sensei!<\/p>\n
I had only just receive the rank of shodan a month before visiting Shiku Kai. It was such a wonderful experience! Everyone was so friendly and kind. All the members made sure we felt welcome, and every sensei offered helpful advice during and after keiko.<\/p>\n
At Shiku Kai, they teach Kirikaeshi a little bit differently than I had been accustomed to doing it. By starting from much, much further away than you think you can strike from, you\u2019re forced to stretch forward, toward your target in order to make your strike hit correctly.<\/p>\n
The keiko is very fast paced and intense but not without plenty of instruction. I was told to keep my shoulders and hips square to my opponent and make sure your left hand is in the center of your body the whole time. By doing so you can add more pressure forward and make your attacks land properly.<\/p>\n
I have learned so much from everyone at Shiku Kai. It was an experience I\u2019ve not had at any other dojo and I\u2019m so very grateful for it! I have much more to learn, and I can\u2019t wait to practice with Iwanami Sensei, Abe Sensei, Okamoto Sensei, and the rest of the Shiku Kai members again!<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
